Today is a bad date for the Sherpas. It’s the day that 7 Sherpas lost their lives in the icefall in 2014. Crossing the icefall is like playing Russian Roulette with the collapses and continuous changes all the time. These big blocks are slowly tumbling their way down the glacier and all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter how skilled or strong you are.
So it’s a rest day for everyone. No one will go through the icefall or move on the mountain today out of respect for those heroes who lost their lives on this day four years ago. Many of the Sherpas here lost their good friends or family. It’s a sad day.
As I lie in my tent with the sun beating down on it, I have all the zips open and I lie with no clothes on letting the air around my body. It’s really quite hot in the tent. I have the last 3 chocolate Oreos from my packet.
Craig has gone over to the Alpine Ascents people to see if we can use their WiFi. Obvs there would be a charge but it probably works better than the 7 Summits one. What a waste of 100 dollars.
If we can’t tap into their WiFi then I am going to walk to Gorekshep which is the highest village on the base camp trek. It’s 2 hours walk therefore it would be a 4 hour round trip for me to get WiFi and again I will need to buy their WiFi cards again.
This evening, can’t believe it, the 7 summits WiFi is working finally lol.
