Monday 30th April – Day 32

 Cake made at base camp   Craig with his special birthday KhataBirthday celebrations in the dining tent  Bob is in the very right corner Today is Craig’s birthday. But it’s a sad day. Tuesday 1 May – Day 33

So today is pretty uneventful. I’m due to start making my way up the hill again day after tomorrow. Bob was supposed to get helicopter down but by the time his insurance people had okayed it and received the paperwork, the weather had closed in down the valley and his chopper was stuck in Lukla unable to fly up. So we have Bob for another night. I’m not sure that he’s that enamoured at that

Weds 2 May – Day 34 – Bobs departure

After a few days of really cold wind from Tibet and snow we woke up to clear blue skies and the sound of helicopters flying. Bob’s chopper came at 6:45am. I gave him a big hug and he wished me good luck. Now it just feels so real and suddenly I feel nervous and a little scared. Bob was like my comfort blanket. After breakfast I went with Craig to see his friends at Kaitu

Thursday 3rd May – Day 35 Base Camp direct to Camp 2

Even though we start the icefall in the dark, even when daylight comes the icefall remains in shadow for a long time when warmth falls in other places on the mountain. The icefall is very cold It was an early start for me. Up at 2.30 am, breakfast at 3, depart for camp 2 at 3:30am. Friday 4th May – Day 36 – Rest day

 Our kitchen and dining room at Camp Two  Chongba melting ice for water Me with Neema having porridge For breakfast  I wake about 7am. I need to pee in my bottle. I get back inside my sleeping bag as it’s not that warm yet. By 8am the sun is on the tent. I shake the sides of snow now to let the sun warm the tent and very soon I’m taking my gloves, hat, jacket and jumper
