2018 Everest/Lhotse

Tuesday 17th April – Day 19

It’s a beautiful day weather wise, blue sky and early sunshine. Ang Galou comes to see us at breakfast to tell us he is really not well and going down to Lukla for a week to try and get better. Up here the body does not recover or mend itself at altitude so it’s a good idea. The helicopter arrived and I wave him off. When the chopper took off, it came straight at me

Weds 18th April – Day 20

Today is a bad date for the Sherpas. It’s the day that 7 Sherpas lost their lives in the icefall in 2014. Crossing the icefall is like playing Russian Roulette with the collapses and continuous changes all the time. These big blocks are slowly tumbling their way down the glacier and all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, no matter how skilled or strong you are. So it’s

Thursday 19th April – Day 21

Me and climbing Sherpa Chiring So it’s been three weeks now. This climbing big mountains malarkey is very slow. This morning we had early breakfast at 6.30 am and it was freezing before sun up. Friday 20th April -Day 22

With my booty So I popped along to the Canadians puja, actually they’re French Canadians, which is maybe why they’re a bit strange. Saturday 21st April – Day 23

So yesterday at the Oxygen Altitude Tea house I managed to get 3 photos posted before the whole Everest Link WiFi system went down. How frustrating. In the Tea house a group of 25 trekkers from London were there. They were just heading down after doing base camp and Kala Phatar. I was chatting to them and they said when they arrived at the Tea house Victoria Pendleton and Ben Fogle were there. They were

Sunday 22nd April – Day 24

Today we walked up past base camp for Pumori, a mountain that lies opposite Everest. On the way we heard a big rumble behind us, turned and we saw that obviously a big chunk of something had fallen off close to camp one and a large snow cloud was descending down the icefall. We hoped everyone is alright. We walked up to 18,300 feet and returned to EBC (Everest Base Camp) in time for lunch.
