2018 Everest/Lhotse
Weds 11th April – Day 13
Today we dropped back down to Loubouche staying tonight in the Oxygen Altitude tea house and heading up to high camp on Loubouche tomorrow.
Thursday 12th April – Day 14
Three of us in a small tent We left Loubouche village about 8:15 and climbed up to high camp on the mountain Loubouche arriving just after 11am. We started out in just one layer of clothing in the sunshine in the morning and arrived in fog and freezing cold up top. We got the tents up, or rather our Sherpa Chawang and the porters put the tents up while I watched and supervised. Just to
Friday 13th April – Day 15 -Summited Lobouche
Me and ChawangLobouche summit We left high camp at 5am. It had taken us an hour to get our gear ready and I was feeling a bit stressed. I’m not good when I’m rushed and I work better under a cool, methodical, relaxed but efficient approach. When I’m stressed I tend to have a bit of a melt down, I make mistakes and my coping mechanism falls apart. But this morning I internalised my melt
Saturday 14th April – Day 16
This morning I realised the proper or rather probable reason for my little internal melt down yesterday, time of the month. So it’s a good time for it to happen now when I have couple easy days ahead. After an early breakfast, we took down the tents and packed our bags to descend back to Loubouche and then climb back up to base camp. Bob went for a pee and came back clutching his side.
Sunday 15th April – Day 17
Back in base camp I awake to the Dawn Chorus again. Loubouche had been really quiet with only few tents up there (acclimatising on it is quite common) but here at base camp the Dawn Chorus does not consist of the the tuneful little birdies tweeting the arrival of a new day. Nope, it is the cacophony of people hawking phlegm and spitting from the accumulation of crap during the night at altitude. It’s really
Monday 16th April – Day 18 – The Puja Ceremony
The Lama with his little hand drum chanting prayers. Beside him sits one of Our Sherpas with an upright knife wedged in a mug of rice to ward off evil spirits our team of sherpas. Bob is on the left with me beside him standing under the prayer flags infront of the khumbu icefall We woke up early to have breakfast before the puja ceremony and the sun hadn’t appeared over the top of the mountain
