So, back to Ironman. I came off the mountain and rested for a month. I started training again beginning of August and as soon as I started to get the running going, the same old pain was back. I had an MRI scan which showed up grade 1 stress in each leg abut 8cm long. No fracture line yet which was good news. So thats pretty much no running for a month.
I arrived at Penticton to represent GB off the back of 4 weeks training but no running. I was amazed that I came 8th in my age group and was the first Brit home. The distances are 3km swim/ 120km bike/ 30km run.
The run was really tough as it was hot and I really felt the lack of run training but I didn’t lose any places on the run leg. I came out of the water in 5th place and lost few places on the bike. Having had the 2 months off, I just hadn’t got the leg power or strength back yet. So to finish in 8th place was a god day for me.
The best part though of the whole trip was actually staying in a beautiful house on the edge of the lake with 3 other GB athletes. We had great fun and camaraderie. After the race we floated down the river between the two lakes on big rubber rings drinking beers as we were carried along in the sunshine. It was a great way to round off a suer trip with some fantastic athletes.
