Just before going to camp I realised I was having a pain in my right foot on the outside half way down, when I ran. As most of us do at the beginning, I ignored it and thought ‘it’ll go away’.
Well it didn’t. It got worse and at training camp I kept it to swim/ bike only.
When I returned I went to Pure Sports Medicine (Kensington branch) for investigation. We did an ultrasound and discovered the tendons were inflamed. The decision was whether to have a cortisone injection now and have 5 days rest and try and build some running again in the lead up to the race or rest it naturally and see if it settled down itself. If this didn’t work, it left me nowhere to go close to the race. So with 3 weeks to race day so I opted for a cortisone injection and hope it would settle down in time to start some running again before the race.
This turned out to be a good choice. It did settle down and I was able to regain some run training just before the race.
I’ve got to say that Pure Sports Medicine have some of the best people dealing with sports injuries that I’ve ever come across. I would highly recommend them.
